Zappada is a mobile application in which users can record their musical ideas anywhere, giving them the ability to add several musical instruments to them. It was at a early stages so I had the liberty to create it from scratch with the help of the founder team composed of musicians and engineers.
The first step was to study how the users behaved and how they used their phones to record the ideas: how they hold the phone and how the app’s flow should be. Along with this we needed to find the right “look and feel”.
With the premise of “recording their ideas anywhere, anytime”, we determined the app’s flow: from letting users record in the main screen to know in which places should the add instruments to the already recorded sessions would be. Trying to keep the app simple without confusing workflows and too many buttons, the design was made for two different screen orientations: landscape and portrait, changing dynamically. It also has the “look and feel” of a garage band studio, something that users could relate to..
